Pure Vintage for Strats
"Having tried just about every Strat pickup you can get including, CS54's, 57/62's, CS69's, Abigail Ybarra SE, Bareknuckle Apache, Kinmans etc etc. I happened your Pure Vintage strat set. Having now fitted them I am absolutely knocked out by them. They are without doubt the best pickups I have ever heard. Stacks of clarity, bottom end nice and full but not muddy, great mids and well defined highs that are not thin. I just love them." Jim McLachlan, via Email
"I put them in my 64 strat, and I am really impressed at the response these babies give out! The guitar now really nails the pre-CBS Fender tones and I am beginning to wonder if I should keep my £1500 odd for the originals cause i doubt if they will be as good as the Toneriders! Christopher Cross These Rocksongs sound just great. The notes are round and crispy, fat as hell. On the neck pickup, I got rich sound, hot and glassy, I just love to play slowly and hear every notes with a bit of reverb. The bridge is powerful, fet but clear, it's easy to play a singol note just after a chord, you'll never lose definition." James Cotton, via Email
“Those in-between pickup settings also exude bags of character and offer excellent hum rejection courtesy of a reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup, and the neck/middle combination nails that ‘Sultans Of Swing’ tone, while the neck pickup on its own gets you straight into the gentler side of Jimi Hendrix. Flip to mid and neck for that ‘Wonderful Tonight’ tone. If you want vintage tone with the typical moderate output of vintage pickups, then this is the set to go for.” Paul White, in Performing-Musician Magazine
“I have been playing the strats that i have built using the Pure Vintage pickups I am blown away. I’ve played, owned and restored some of the great instruments of the 50s and 60s and these are an incredible modern twist on the vintage Fender sound - the magnet stagger really works to improve the balance and the in-between positions are really quiet.” Luke Whitfield, Luthier, RebelRelic Guitars.
“I’m absolutely blown away at how these sound. They are made in China and are priced for ‘real world’ musician budgets. They are the equal of any of the boutique pickups out there.” www.andrewcampbell.net Andrew Campbell
“They sound so good clean that I go into a trance and dont even think about using my pedals, however they respond to high gain and distortion if you want to go there, but it’s almost sacriligous to play them “unclean” Their is the most complex richly textured pup’s I have ever heard. It’s Tonerider for life now!” Bundini, on harmony-central.com
“In 20 years I have had many of the best pickups ever made,in the last 3 years I have had Fender, Fralin, Bareknuckle, Duncan Antiquities, Wizard, Van Zandt…and all vintage output,…these pickups are truly unmatched in any department,..if you had a tone in your head of a vintage 50s Strat these are the best things on earth, loads of position 2/4 quack and the neck pickup to die for pure “woody tone” Skinflute, on harmony-central.com
“I have a hard time not smiling when I play this baby now. Right amount of bass, treble and no mud whatsoever. After six months of using these pickups they still excite me! Buy you some of these!” Thor Rockingham
“The clean tones are beautiful. I can get lost in the clean tones for hours. I can honestly state I have yet to hear a better clean tone from any strat pickups I’ve used. They shine with a tube screamer type overdrive also. Wonderful pickups for blues. For my needs, they get a big fat 10. They are really everything I want in a strat pickup. The fact they are inexpensive makes it all the better!” Bloozer, on harmony-central.com
City Limits for Strats “The neck is what makes this set shine, its fat and round, but clear as a bell. Inevitably these pickups will get compared to Texas Specials, and I think the neck pickup on this set stands out above the Texas Specials I used to have. The bridge pickup is fantastic. I NEVER used the bridge setting with the Texas Specials; it was just too harsh. However, that is not the case with the City Limits. It’s clear, hot, a bit in your face but never tiresome to hear. It sounds great clean, overdriven, and distorted. A BIG improvement.” Alex on harmony-central.com
“These pup’s are so musical and alive with textures that you love them more every time you play them. These pups are also as advertised, they really are “versatile”, you can drive these babies with as much distortion, gain whatever, they deliver and maintain their dignity, the beauty shines thru! The finest single coil I have ever heard.” Bundini on harmony-central.com
“These pickups, aside from nailing SRV tone, can pull off all forms of rock (sabbath, floyd, king crimson, wolfmother, among others), and lovely clean tones. my favourite position is the neck p’up with my boss blues driver and ibanez ts-7 tubescreamer driving it hard. simply magnificent.” Dr. Donald Blake
“What a beautiful set of pick-ups. The output is low-mid powered and certainly gives you plenty of choice when setting the volume level on the guitar. The bridge is still a little wimpy but I accept that it needs to be to keep the mid and higher frequencies pumping. Note separation on all 3 pups is really good and notes/chords really ring out - just like a good strat should.”t the inter-positions sound like. These pups do really well in all these styles (well not full out balls to the wall metal - but HEY) but really nail that SRV/Hendrix/Galagher sound.” Stephen Phillipson
“I wanted a guitar for that “Strat” sound. This baby has it. In bucketloads. It’s just really “stratty” …… lovely single coil sound on the front, middle and rear. Great strat “out of phase” quack in the between positions. And it’s all nicely balanced.” Mikka on Harmony-Central.com
“When looking for THAT Strat sound, these have it. I would characterize the sound as authentic, crisp, full and surprisingly not noisy. The neck pickup can really nail the SRV sound and the bridge can cut through quite nicely. The in-betweens can get that Robert Cray quack!” PaulR on Harmony-Central.com
Classic Blues for Strat “I have been through a fair whack of Seymour Duncans, Dimarzio and Fender pickups before I found these and must say that I am happiest with the sound of the toneriders….sure noiseless would be a plus, but hey, hendrix never had noiseless pickups and he did ok…Overall a great pickup from a great company…and I will be replacing the pickups in my other strat with these as well!” Craig on Harmony-Central.com
“These have a bit more punch than the stock, which is a plus. they are Well balanced set. I think one reason they sound more powerful is that the harmonic spectrum and/or frequency response is much broader and more complex; they are very musical.” Jimmy Chitown on Harmony-Central.com
“A friend installed these for me on my custom built Warmoth strat. The blues designation put me off at first. I thought they might be like Texas style hot. While they do have more output and my guitar is louder, it retains the beautiful vintage strattiness I so dearly love. These are wonderful sounding pickups. These pickups are quality all the way around.” Dale Schwieger on Harmony-Central.com
Surfari Sets for Strat “I am not a big fan of high output pickups on strats and these are perfect. This is great Strat sparkle and clarity, especially on the low-strings — something I have been chasing for a long time. I would say this very balanced sounding set of pickups. I play a lot of different styles of music and these are a great fit for any music that is a suitable for a strat (rock, country, blues). I have cycled through a lot of pickups and I have finally found something that delivers that iconic Strat sound at about a half to a third of the price that the boutique guys are offering. I am absolutely stunned at what these deliver for the price.” Pete Nelson on Harmony-Central.com

Telecaster Pickups
“Clear and Pretty with no Glassy highs, very well balanced for chording and leads, plenty of twang too. These are one of the most musical sounding pickups. These make me smile every time I pick up one of my Tele’s that are blessed with these.” Rotellicaster on harmony-central.com
“The bridge pickup is clear and incisive, without setting your teeth on edge. The neck (which I’ve never had a lot of use for on a Tele), is a revelation. Used clean it is truly beautiful for rhythm, picking or lead. It’s made five of my guitars redundant. I could go on about tone, note separation etc. for ever and still not describe it, it’s just got something different.” Adrian9 on harmony-central.com
“Excellent balance between pickups, clear and lots of attitude. Country, blues, folk, doesn’t matter, these can do most everything.” JB on Harmony-Central.com
“…Head and shoulders above the stock pickups in terms of articulation, attack and balance. The bridge is strong but without the ice pick, and you hear every string evenly. The neck, same deal. Play a slow open G chord and then bar straight across the 12th fret. You’ll say F*%k! - what did I pay for these? Lead work is so much more defined now.” Titus Pullo on Harmony-Central.com
Rocksong Humbuckers "I'd initally been drawn to the Rocksong set because of the low price and impressive sound samples, so took the plunge, not expecting very much After some extensive playing of the guitar with the Rocksongs, I began comparing its tone to that of my main guitar, a '98 Les Paul Custom in white fitted with a vastly more expensive set of Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II's, and got curious. I'd purchased a second set of Rocksongs by then (with gold covers), which had really brought a £160 Squier Tele Custom to life - even making it sound better than a £750 Fender counterpart, to my ears - so out of curiosity I fitted this set into my Gibson. Wow! As soon as I hit the first chord, I knew the Seymours weren't going back in. The Toneriders are a much more organic, responsive set, and after roughly 30 seconds of amp tweaking I'd found the sort of tone I've been seeking for years - riffs and chords remained perfectly defined no matter how distorted I chose to play, while I could easily execute pinch and natural harmonics exactly how and when I wanted. Flicking up to the neck pickup was a revelation, as that wonderfully creamy Motorcycle Emptiness/Sweet Child O'Mine tone leapt out at me. Clean playing is now more rewarding than ever, with the Rocksongs showing their versatility; with very little tweaking these units can produce a superb jazz/blues clean tone, or indeed a host of eminently usable rock cleans - I also look forward to taking advantage of their coil tappability in the future to further increase my tonal variety. The Rocksong pickups are a rock guitarist's dream set; they have helped me get closer to my own personal tonal nirvana than any other pickup!" Rhys Trigg, via Email
"I fitted a set of Rocksong Pickups to the 12 string guitar I built. I wanted pickups with a smooth output , and good sustain, and four conductor wire for coil tapping . When I saw the Tonerider at Dangleberry, it seemed the perfict solution, having Alnico 2 magnets I knew they would be smooth , but powerfull. When I finished building the guitar, I could not wait to string it, so I could hear how it would sound, I was not disappointed, its got a great ful bodied sound in humbucker mode, and a classic acoustic sound, when I pull out the push-pull switch in the tone control . I would recommend the Tonerider Rocksong Pickup to anyone - a great Pickup at a great price." Matt Brown
“These have been described as PAFs on steroids and I agree. They are punchy, dynamic, have good harmonics and the clarity is stellar. This guitar is alive now. Woody tone; the pickups really seem to give a supercharged PAF sound paired with the natural guitar tone. Balanced, but more alive and dynamic than the previous pickups. I am continually surprised at how clear these things sound even with the gain on 10. I bought these on a hunch and feel like I found the deal of the century on pickups.” Ingsoc on Harmony-Central.com
“Both the neck and bridge are very responsive to pick attack, and can go from a warm clear tone to wonderfull crunch and screaming pinch harmonics with a simple adjustment to the volume pot. I can honestly say that these sound better than any Duncan, DImarzio or Even Fralin set that I have owned, They are a bit on the bright side in my guitar, but a quick cap change and they were dead on. Very good for heavey Blues (Gary Moore) or Santana type of overdrive sound.” John Whalen, on Harmony-Central.com
Generator Humbuckers "These are great. As someone else said, they remind me of the Duncan JB's, but with a little tighter bottom end. I plugged it into my Roland Cube with a BOSS EQ pedal in front and got a great RATT sound right off the bat. Just what I was looking for. I would definitely buy again and I just recommended it to a friend, which prompted me to write this review. I would agree that this is as good as anything "the majors" put out." Jim, on Harmony-Central.com<
"Really good pickup, absolutely solid. The clean sound is bright and punchy, and when used with higher volumes on the amp it crunches up really nicely. I'm using it with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, it really suits the amp to a T. I play all styles of music, and it works well with rock in the main. It can be used for blues quite happily, but I wouldn't recommend it for funk. It's far too thick, but if you were of a coil-tapping disposition then it would work brilliantly for funk. I think this pickup would work well in any position." Sammy C on harmony-central.com
"These pickup's are fantastic value for money. I fitted them on an old hand made LP Copy(which sounded so tinny) which i bought on e-bay and now the guitar has a fatter full toned sound, much better than my Gibson SG special with factory pickups!" Norbert, on Harmony-Central.com
Rebel 90's "The sound is supercharged single coil — Fat mids, gritty and with plenty of bite. There's no harshness here at all thanks partly to the Alnico II magnets. It's just about the perfect pickup for our Redback F-Series guitars " Rodney Chan, Redback Guitars
"Output level is outstanding. I play through a Traynor YCV40 using various pedals. Pickups are very balanced, can get gritty when cranked, but very clean when backed off. I like country, rockabilly and early rock and these p-90 really fit the bill. Because of their versatility I can't imagine a genre they couldn't be used for." Leonarider on harmony-central.com
"The Rebel 90s have a surprisingly high output level. Single coil sound, and then some!! Turn up the volume and get that dirty sound. Slacken off the volume and play clean as a whistle." Dave Redknap
"Output level is awesome - this guitar has finally come alive! These pickups beg to be opened up and become dirty, and that they do. Rolling back the volume delivers pleasing single coil goodness that Humbuckers simply cannot produce. The tone is single coil on steroids. The neck is my favorite: fat, gritty, clean, you name it, this can do it " Titus Pullo
