Pure Vintage taken to the (Nearly) Edge?

February 12th, 2009

The Edge from U2 has to have created some of the most iconic sounds in rock over the last two decades.  Despite his reliance on delay units, great guitars still play a large part in getting such simple guitar parts to sound as musical as possible. In this video, UK youtube.com user NearlyEdge shows how its done with a black Strat laden with our every popular Pure Vintage (TRS1) pickups.  Great playing, great tone, and a good recording. Its almost even better than the real thing!

Stunning work from California luthier Mike Bernatzki

August 11th, 2008

Stunning work from part-time California luthier Mike Bernatzki - a metallic blue tele with a mint green pickguard. Mike chose our Hot Classic Neck pickup (TRT2N-NK) which is one of the only production telecaster neck pickups in the world to use German-silver for the cover. The bridge pickup is our Alnico IV Classic (AC4N-NK), also featuring our German-silver covers. German-silver, also called nickel-silver is our favourite material for making all kinds of pickup covers - its far more tonally transparent than brass, meaning the detail and nuance of your playing is kept intact. Teles with buckers and trems....lovely! Click on the images for details.

Tonerider Rebel 90s pickups

"Crisp, Warm without harshness, Punchy yet Creamy"-- Michael in Sydney

June 10th, 2008

Our humbucker sized Rebel 90s pickups have rapidly become an Australian favourite, outselling even our Pure Vintage strat set last month - but would they work in an arch top?  Michael in Sydney, Australia changed the Gibson 57 Classic Humbuckers in his ES-175 and sent in the following review.  "I play R&B Blues, and I wanted more bite like my old 1968 ES 330 that I foolishly sold 15 years ago.  Would hum size single-coils sound good in a full body jazzer?  Should I have bought an established (more expensive) USA brand version?   The next morning, when I plugged straight in to my Mesa Boogie F30 head/112 cab (clean channel), all doubts evaporated.  Gone are the dark, woolly tones of the humbuckers, now I have crisp, tight tones with just the right bottom end.  Vitally, the warm woody fatness of the guitar is still there and you can still dial in great jazz tones if you want it.  Crisp and warm without harshness, punchy yet creamy.  I'm really happy."

Simon Forrester upgrade his Les Paul '91 Classic with Tonerider

May 16th, 2008

Alnico IV pickups, and it is looking very handsome indeed.  Simon had the following kind words to say about the AC4's: "I love the tonal balance, the clarity and the responsiveness of these AC4s.  Plenty of bite and punch when you want it but they mellow out so nicely with the volume and tone knobs rolled back.   I've had various high-end pickups in there over the years, but nothing that has really set off the acoustic tone of the guitar and brought it to life.  I really think I've struck gold with the AC4s!"
